Muscle Relaxants
Muscle Relaxants are used clinically to help induce increased muscle relaxation and are a first line treatment for conditions where painful muscle spasms can lead to agonising pain for individuals. There are two major types of muscle relaxants, neuromuscular blockers and spasmolytics but it is the latter that are most commonly referred to as muscle relaxants or used in clinical situations since neuromuscular blockers are typically only used during surgery to cause temporary paralysis.

With spasmolytics sometimes having central nervous system effects, the choice of muscle relaxant frequently depends on the patient's individual circumstances with some commonly prescribed muscle relaxants, such as Dantrolene, and Diazepam, less rarely prescribed nowadays.
